So yesternight Mia and I had the pleasure of meeting an adorable 20 year old from NEW ZEALAND. This sexy nugget of boy-man spent the night hanging with us and our friends, being cute, spitting game, wetting undies, etc. Today, as per usual, Mia and I recapped our night minute-for-minute and found ourselves giving some serious thought to the power of an accent:

YES. He was charming. YES. He was funny. YES. We wanted to add him to our social networks. But are these uber crushable qualities enough to save a baby sexy from the fatal flaw of being born too late? NO!!!!

Let me explain. Mia and I went through this brief "underage boyfriend" phase. Thought process: seeking attractive, vulnerable, not a boy not yet a mandude trapped inside a man's body. (Of course they were all legal! Don’t be gross, y’all!) Initially we thought it was funny/exciting/not creepy to pursue boys under 21. BUT when we realized it WAS creepy we totes hit the brakes on the operation. 100% RETIRED from the baby boy club!!!!

That's where the wild card comes in: THE ACCENT! Here's this guy, 20 years old, unable to order a glass of wine at the dinner I have already planned for us in my mind, and I'm still into it!

Everyone knows accents are extra delish. This information is practically spoon-fed to us by moms/sisters/aunts/the delivery room nurse the moment we're birthed. It's number 1, 2 and 3 on the list of criteria for my future husband. BUT (here comes the "big picture") what we realized is that a mandude can TOTALLY use his accent to mask otherwise unacceptable qualities. In this case the issue was age, but it could definitely be applied to other "I’m sorry mom" qualities such as jobless, car less, living with your parents, underdeveloped personal hygiene, etc.

SO the question we have to ask ourselves as man hunters is: "Is having sweet nothings whispered in foreign tongues an acceptable trade off for footing the bill at dinner, driving him to the unemployment office, or buying him a 12 pack?"

As long as they keep speaking, my answer is YES! Either way, I'm hitting up Little Australia the second I move to New York. See you there, mates!

An Ode to Vanna, 2010 Leslie Steet, Cinco De Mayo, Our Anniversary, and Zelda the Puppy

Yesterday was epic on multiple levels.

Lindsey and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary.
It was fucking Cinco De Mayo.
AND the Vanna boys rolled through.
This is a long/sentimental/annoying post, watch out...

For those of you who don't know, Lindsey and I met at a Cinco De Mayo party two years ago. We were shit face drunk in the middle of the day, and conned everyone into giving us a dollar for a "community pack" of cigarettes. Since everyone was pretty hammered, no one realized Lindsey and I gathered enough money for TWO packs. We proceeded to walk to the gas station (it was actually probably more like stumble), and laughed at how smart/cunning we were. When we got back to the party we hid one pack all for ourselves...If you have ever met us, even one time, you will understand when I say that day pretty much sums up our friendship. Scheming. Laughing. And talking about ourselves.

Lindsey Martin is the best friend I have ever had. I love her more than life. We basically are IAR. She is the first person I call when I wake up in the morning (even if there is a guest in my bed ). She yells at me when I cry about nothing. She will go through male modeling agency websites with me when I'm sad about boys. She paid for half of my doctor bill when I had a medical crisis last summer and let me pay her back 300 dollars twenty bucks at a time. She makes me feel ok with my addiction to Top 40 radio. She will buy the mild sausage, even though she prefers the spicy, because she knows I don't like spicy foods (although I am coming around thanks to her pantry stocked in all things jalapeno). I could go on and on, but I won't because I will start crying. And then Lindsey will have to yell at me.

My baby precious is leaving in two weeks for NYC. Based on our history of only dating/loving boys who live out of state, we pretty much own the long distance relationship thing. So I'm not worried. But I will miss spending 24/7 with her and am totes jeal of all you asshats in NYC that will be graced with her presence daily.

OK ENOUGH OF THE MUSHY SHIT.

Yesterday our good friends Vanna had a show in Dallas at this really retarded place called The Door. EVER HEARD OF IT? Hi, we don't serve alcohol or let you smoke inside, and check your ID EVERY TIME you go in and out to confirm you are 21 even though we have checked it like six times in the past hour. FML. ANYWAY, we spent like 80 dollars on Keystone and totally fucked up the greenroom Stillwater style (that was an Almost Famous reference BTW).

We love the Vanna boys and all their tattoos/sweat/screaming. Every time they roll through Dallas the day begins with shotgunning beers and ends with drunken debauchery. They are the best dudes because A) they aren't trying to get in your pants B) they know how to fucking party and C) will play wingman for you and make sure you get an MO with the cute roadie/merch guy/lead screamer of the other screaming band they are touring with. TANKS GUYZ.

We have many Vanna slumber parties under our belt (although I probably shouldn't call them slumber parties since there is rarely any sleeping). All of which have taken place at my second home: 2010 Leslie Street AKA Chelsea and Lindsey's house AKA home of the wonky bed AKA hotel for dawgs. Since both occupants are graduating and moving to NYC to pursue big girl things, 2010 Leslie Street had its last days of disco last night. Glad we got to celebrate its final moments with the people who appreciate 2010 the most (Ryan, Austin, Brit, Ian, Adam, Annie, Ben, Philly...so glad you guys drunkenly stumbled through the door last night).

We all have some great mems at that humble abode. All of which involve alcohol. So it was no question that we got sloppy during it's final countdown. Thanks to my TMZ style papo iPhone photography skillz (+/- the camera bag app) there was lots of evidence.

So many of you know, after a night of consistently consuming alcoholic beverages , I am notorious for sneaking away and finding a little corner to get cozy and pass out in. I never say good night. Or let anyone know where I am going (this proved somewhat scary the time I disappeared and no one could find me for an hour. I was in a lawn chair sleeping in the back yard). Sometimes it happens in public if the booth/couch/floor is comfortable enough. Anyway, we have recently coined this act "THE PEACE OUT PASS OUT." And even though it is my signature move, we caught little Philly in the act on Sunday night.

Props to Lindsey H for enlightening us with the term "The Smoke Bomb" via Denver, CO. It took me a while to figure this one out. I'll give you a hint: it has to do with magicians.

Social Networks are kind of like relationships. They come. They go. Some you like more than others. Some you hit up when you are bored with the one you truly care about...With new networking phenoms like Twitter, does anyone else feel "socially slutty"??? I kind of feel like I'm playin' gamez tryin to rep myself on so many sites.

Why do I feel guilty for checking my FB more frequently than my Myspace now? I know we are going on five years, but I am feeling my self starting to stray. Am I throwing our relationship away for nothing? Should I move on to bigger, more global things? FUCK! I AM SO CONFUSED!

And what is Twitter even but a FWB?! He doesn't offer the full package, but definitely consumes a large portion of my time, energy, and thoughts. I'm soooo ok with the tiny bit he has given me so far, but would totally be stoked if he wanted to bring more to the table.

Should I change my status to in a relationship yet? Or keep e-whorin' it up??

A Book You Should Probably Own

A few years back my friend Luke bought me this amazing coffee table book. Whenever I need inspiration/motivation I always flip through it and find myself wanting to create things. It's called Woodstock Homemade Houses...here is a preview.

The book documents homes from the artistic collective of Woodstock, NY in the early seventies. All the houses are owner designed and built using materials found in the community.

Since I'm moving soon, I can't put it down. I have so many ideas! Maybe too many ideas?

When you live in a town like Denton, sometimes your views on the opposite sex become cloudy.
After being completely spoiled at the babe Mecca some refer to as SXSW, we have come to realize that there are multiple definitions of a an attractive guy.

1. The Classroom Cutie - Anyone that is in/has been in a college can relate to this one. As you zone out and casually scan the auditorium or classroom, you zero in on that one guy/girl that in some parallel universe could maybe be attractive. In most cases, this person would never catch your eye in passing or at a bar, but for some reason, you find yourself consciously flirting with him/her on a daily basis. Kind of awkward. Kind of embarrassing. But always entertaining. The logistics of a classroom cutie can also describe "the work crush" or "the bartender I get drunk and sometimes make out with."

2. The Airport Crush - Have you ever been tired, bored, and stuck in the airport terminal for hours and suddenly find your self attracted to the guy wearing DC's and an oversized hoodie and desperately hoping he will sit by you on the flight? Don't deny it...you have.

3. The DILF - Most commonly found in grocery stores, post offices, and family style restaurants such as Chili's. Usually this one never exceeds the fantasy stage. There is definitely never any contact considering the circumstances (small children, wedding ring, etc.). Personal favs include "the silver fox" (love a full head of gray, y'all. LUV U ANDY COOPER), "the alt dad" (embarrassing if he was your own, but acceptable otherwise), and "the manny" (who can resist a guy taking care of six kids??).

4. The Denton Complex - this one we use when out of town. Is he cute? Is he not cute? Oh wait, he is Denton cute. FML. Not cute at all.

Its always a let down coming home from vacation and having to deal with raging hormones and no one to really spit game at. Sigh. I guess we will just have to wait 363 days until next SXSW...

My roommate Annie is probably one of the funniest people I know. The following is an excerpt from a blog entry she wrote describing the "typical" crowd at shows. She should probably have her own XM radio show or something.

Lemme give you a little rundown of the crowd you can expect.
-Overly enthusiastic, poorly/plainly dressed fans. At your more "rock and roll" type shows, these individuals will typically be holding up the "ROCK AND ROLL" horns throughout the entire set; at your dancier shows, they clutch flashing party lights they found at the Dollar General. This over-enthusiasm comes from their desire to show what truly authentic fans they are, as they probably recently discovered the performing artist in their "iTunes recommends..." section.

-At least 5 couples who look like they have no idea what they are doing there, but insist on holding onto each other, as though for dear life, throughout the entirity of the show. The "hold" they are typically are engaged in is what Hallie and I refer to as the "cholo reach-around", where the boyfriend awkwardly stands behind his girlfriend wrapping both arms around her waist. If a guy I was dating tried to do this to me, I would probably have to violently discontinue the relationship. If you accidentally bump the girlfriend of the couple, the boyfriend gets really hostile and defensive. This couple will make-out for the duration of the more "meaningful" songs.

-Always expect to be randomly, angrily and violently elbowed or pushed in some circumstance or another. I'm not sure why, but die-hard fans tend to get overly aggressive during shows.

-There is always ALWAYS the embarrassingly drunk 25+ year old male or female, who most likely got dragged to the show by friends or just happened to drunkenly stumble in from a bar next door. This person always seems to want to stand in close proximity to ME, insisting on dancing wildly and persistently and then becoming personally offended if I happen to point, laugh or show disapproval. Sometimes this escalates into a verbal fight, but usually the person is too drunk to do anything about it. I don't know where they get these moves, or who told them they were appropriate to display in public.

-LYRICS SCREAMERS. "WHAT??? I CAN'T HEAR THE SINGER OF THE BAND SINGING IT WELL ENOUGH I DON'T THINK THE MASSIVE PILLARS OF SPEAKERS ARE DOING THEIR JOBS WELL ENOUGH, WILL YOU PLEASE YELL THE LYRICS IN MY EAR? IN A REALLY BAD SINGING VOICE?" I understand and partake in singing along, don't get me wrong, but drowing out any and all sounds the band is making with your shrieking is not necessary. We get it, you like the song, thanks for wasting my money.

-The totally shithoused 17 year olds who used going to the show as an excuse to get out of their parent's suburban house to express their inner angst. While they do probably have some remote interest in the performing artist, their number one priority is getting rowdy. Normally these individuals only present an annoyance by holding up the lines in the bathroom cos they are using the stalls to secretly pour Kentucky Deluxe from flasks into their $4 diet cokes. I can't stay mad at them, because that was me five years ago (plus, I'd still get down with a KD and Diet).

-The uptight, elitist fan who makes you feel like shit on the bottom of their shoe if you accidentally distract them from the performance with any overly loud clapping, yelling, or any expression of enjoyment. This person may corner you at the bar or in the bathroom and ask you what your favorite "record" of the performing artist is, attempting to belittle your fan-dom. They more than likely live with their mothers and work full time at Best Buy.

The aforementioned are typically at least 90% of the crowd; the other 10% are either unnoticed or people I would actually talk to IRL. As interesting as each of these characters are, their expectedness at each and every show really weakens any desire to attend shows in the future; at least give me someone new and exciting to make fun of. Come on people, make a spectacle of yourself, life is too short.

UM. I love her. You should probably read her blog "Annie's Most Interesting". I literally just ran into the kitchen demanding she update it more often with her day's most interesting events. ..she should be paid to write this shit.

UPDATE: Went to the Plants and Animals show last night at Hailey's and definitely witnessed a REVERSE cholo reach-around. GIRL BEHIND GUY. Common' dude. Grow a pair.

What is it with guys and Ikea? Between the dollies and hotdogs, Ikea is the one shopping trip that men don't entirely hate getting dragged along to. On top of that, when I came home with two pieces of assemble-yourself furniture, I had dudes practically begging me to allow them to come over and put it together. Of course, I didn't mind this, considering the last time I tried to put one of those Swedish puzzles together it was upside down, backwards, and took about four hours to complete... As they begin, their true macho-man shines through. NO POWER TOOLS. NO HELP. TIME ME! After, oh, thirty minutes or so, the power trip turns into cursing and asking for minor assistance. Its ok guys, no one is completely fluent in picture instructions. In the end, I'm happy, because I have a new book case/TV table AND helped two of my very best friends feel like the ultimate men.

Anyway, I decided my New Year's resolution is to shave my legs everyday like Annie. I feel like this not only betters myself, but others around me as well.

I guess this counts as this year right?? The highlight of the night? Josh Lowe acting a fool and/or all the booze left at Lindsey's house the next day.

A WHOLE TEN INCHES. Watching Ian fall as he pushed my car out of the drive way, the beer garden, and the massage train...

I like Santa Clause as much as the next guy. A normal amount. Medium. My mother...my wonderful, sweet adorable mother that I want to be (almost) just like...really likes Santa. So much, in fact, that during the holidays she proudly displays all of her precious custom-made-as-tall-as-a-five-year-old Santa Clauses all over my parent's house.

Normally, a loved one's unique and seemingly harmless admiration for a fictional character wouldn't really bother me. However, coming home drunk to this will always be terrifying.

Winter time not only marks the end of finals, but the begining of cold nights made extra special with whiskey (God's heater) and fires. If you know us at all, you will completely understand our connection with the "backyard fire". It's a chance for all of our male friends to feel that bonus burst of testosterone as they construct the perfect outdoor furnace and us girls to stay warm in the below freezing (no seriously, below freezing) Texas nights.

As a supplement to the extremem weather, and a reward for all the dudes' hard work, Lindsey and I make a magical concoction of love and alcohol...whiskey cider. The recipe has been long kept a secret, however, you are all in for a treat. Today (aka a noteworthy moment in history), we will reveal our infamous recipe for whiskey cider...

Heat 1 1/2 quarts of Simply Apple on medium heat in a large sauce pan. Slice the orange into circles and add to the brew. Add cinnamon sticks and hearts. Let simmer for thirty minutes. Put one shot (OR MORE) into mugs and add two ladles of cider.

FIVE SONGS THAT DEFINE THE FRIENDSHIP OF LINDSEY + MIA

As many of you know, Lindsey and I enjoy a wide variety of music. Some good. Some not. Some downright annoying. Through thick and thin, good taste and bad, these songs really tug at our drunken heartstrings. We will turn them up. We will dance. M: Touches on a happier time and place filled with boxed wine, chain smoking, and amateur film making...

L: This will forever be our Denton anthem. Love/hate/love. It sounds the best on Mia's porch in the spring.

3. "I Get Around (Midnite Juggernaut Remix)" - Dragonette
M: Hailey's. Tangos. Me drunkenly spinning alone on the dance floor?

L: I'm pretty sure the only communication I ever have with Jason is telling him to play this song for the second or third time in one night.

4. "Burnin' Up" - The Jonas Brothers
M: You can call us annoying and ridiculous, but it won't change the fact that we have a sick obsession with the JoBros. We know every word to every song and we are not ashamed.

L: What's not to love?

5. "Blue Letter" - Fleetwood Mac
M: Because we were always too lazy to flip the record.

L: Really? I definitely just wanted to hear this song again...and again...

If you haven't heard the latest project of former Stroke Fabrizio Moretti, then you are definitely missing out. Little Joy is hands down my favorite band to debut in 2008.

Listen to "No One's Better Sake", it is my personal fav off their self titled album, which I have been listening too non-stop since I had the pleasure of seeing them live in Houston over Thanksgiving...if these organ filled tunes don't make you as happy as a clam, well then, I don't know what will.
